Exploring Careers

As you approach graduation, it can be very confusing and overwhelming to figure out what kind of jobs or industries to target. There are strategies and tools to help you explore the myriad of opportunities that are available to you, as a university graduate. A thorough approach involves two aspects: knowing yourself and understanding the labour market.

Preparing for Work

Once you have decided what kind of job you want, you need to focus on work search materials, like a resume, cover letter, portfolio, LinkedIn profile (etc.) that will have employers wanting to meet you. Then, it is all about acing that interview and preparing your references.

Finding Work

Searching for work is a full-time job, especially if you are invested in finding not just a job, but the right job. Further, effective job search involves using multiple strategies concurrently, focusing the bulk of your efforts on what is most effective.

Managing Your Career

Completing your degree is a huge accomplishment marking a milestone in your career, as is landing your first professional job related to your program of study, or securing a promotion upon graduation. However, these accomplishments are only the beginning of managing your career over the long term.
